Classification of Blogs


Blogging can be done anywhere and anytime. There are million each day submitting their thoughts by using blogs. According to Technorati.com there are six major categories of subject as followings:
  • Entertainment
  • Technology
  • Sports
  • Politics
  • Living
  • Business

All All of this subject then later branch out to Sub- Categories. As follows:

  • Architecture
  • Fashion
  • Parenting
  • Automobile
  • Pets
  • Food and wine
  • Travel
  • Health

Blogs can be classified as media types. There are different types of blogs such as follows:

  • Linkblog- is a blog that consist of other blogs' URL and you can link to those blogs. Example of a linklog is Lisanova.
  • Moblog- Sending pictures from a cameraphone or mobile device. e.g Flickr
  • Podcast- Audio recording, typically in MP3 format and served through RSS feed enclosure. e.g Utterz
  • Videoblog/Vlog- is short video blog, is a term use to describe a blog that contains video clips. Examples of vlog are youtube.com
  • Microblog- a short text message which may or may not contain a shortened URL. Popular with mobile users (SMS). e.g Twitter
  • Miniblog/reBlog- using a more significant amount of content from a third party in a post versus creating original material. Typically these posts are shorter than a regular blog post, but don’t have to be. e.g Tumblr
  • - Liveblog- covering some type of live event like a sports event, press conference, tv show, etc. e.g, coveritlive (tool)


Technorati (2009) classifies bloggers into three main categories – the personal, the professional, and the corporate - they acknowledge that an overlap in topics often occurs. There for bloggers should classify their own blogs into categories. This method will make it simpler for the viewer to check out each blogs that has interest to them.
