Blogging Phenomena


What is Weblog


Firstly, what is a weblog? Weblog was first used by Jorn Barger on his Robot Wisdom website in 1997 (Auburn 1999, and Blood 2000). What makes a Weblog a Weblog? Weblog is usually represent the online intersection of people and time (Werbach 2001)

Blogging has become popular from year 1994- 2004. It was first started as an online diary and rapidly became a popular hit to write their own journal about their daily lives. According to helium.com , people are communicating faster and faster, and at the same time communicating with attitude. According to Technorati.com (2008), they are currently tracing 112.8 million blogs. They also claim that according to their current data, more than 175, 000 blogs are created every day and ‘over 18 updates a second’ (About 2008).

Technorati.com reported that 100,000 new blogs were being created every day, and 1.3 million blog posts were written. And now there is more than 57 million blogs and believes that 55% are active and updates at least every 2 months. An analysts from (bbc.co.uk) said that during the middle of next year the number of blogs will level out at about 100 million and added that 200 million people have already stopped writing their blogs.

Benefits of Blogging to the community

Blogs has been proven to be a useful and beneficial means to public especial Malaysians. With this many political blogs has been created so that public is educated and informed about the government. Blogs is an alternative media, and this will help them to shape the ideas and public view about certain news. Too add on, blogs as a social interest, this will allow family from different part of the country and continent to keep in touch with each other. As for business blogs, public is keep updated with the latesr technologies and current development in business area.
